We prepare you for careers in Journalism and Public Relations

At Humboldt State University, we train students to be disciplined, open-minded thinkers, gatherers of reliable content and trustworthy storytellers. In our journalism and public relations programs, students dig right into media-making in their first semester. Our freshman learn the necessary skills to build expert blogs, take photos, conduct interviews, produce videos and podcasts and practice reporting. After this running start, students craft compelling stories for our student-run media such as The Lumberjack, El Lenador, Osprey magazine and KRFH-FM radio. They work with clients and get the real-world experience necessary to become public relations representatives for non-profit or for-profit organizations. While building professional portfolios, students also glean deeper appreciation for media ethics, law, history and contemporary media issues. Our journalism program prepares students to work professionally in local, regional and national news media and public relations or to start their own business. We prepare our students so they can choose to attend graduate and law school. Our graduates work hard to make the world a better place.

If this sounds like an exciting challenge for you, consider journalism and public relations at Humboldt State. We'd love to hear from you.
