High School Media Day 2020
12-3 p.m. Friday, March 6, 2020
Events begin in the HSU Library, third floor
Humboldt State University
Student media makers, newspaper and yearbook staffs, journalism teachers and student media advisers, please join us for High School Media Day 2020 and the 3rd Annual Northern California Jackie Award ceremony. The event is open to all middle/junior and high school teachers and students in Northern California – even if your school doesn’t have student media or a yearbook.
We’ve planned plenty of hands-on activities for beginners, seasoned scholastic journalists and those interested in media literacy. The day also provides a chance to network with students, advisers and HSU professors, to win fun prizes and to be honored for your hard work at the HSU Jackies – our award ceremony for high school student publications.
Food, door prizes & swag for all!
Register here for this free afternoon. If you preregister with a pic, we can make you a spiffy HSU Journalism Press Pass with your name and photo.
Student participants can choose from several hands-on workshops led by Journalism and Mass Communications faculty and your peers. Workshops include social media storytelling, how to spot fake news, tips for better photos and video, and finding important public records. The afternoon concludes with the “Jackies” Award ceremony, recognizing excellence in high school journalism.
Participants can tour student media offices, including our El Leñador/Lumberjack newsroom and KRFH-FM student radio.
High school journalism and yearbook teams are invited to enter online, broadcast and print media including yearbooks, websites, student magazines, social media, videos and newspapers for our award competition.
