Biography: 

Local radio legend Cliff Berkowitz teaches Introduction to Radio Production and advises our award-winning student radio station KRFH, Radio Free Humboldt at 105.1FM and KRFH.net. He began teaching at Humboldt in 2008 and many of his students have graduated to become professional broadcasters all over the country. Under his supervision and through his inspiration, KRFH was named Best College Radio Station by RadioFlag in 2012 and 2014.

Berkowitz is the founder of local media company Lost Coast Communications, Inc. and was the morning show host at KHUM-FM for 23 years until November 2019.

He has more than four decades of radio experience in Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Diego, Riverside/San Bernardino and Fresno. Berkowitz has worked as a national radio consultant for stations in New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Denver, Dallas, Houston, Washington DC, Atlanta, Chicago and Baltimore.

Berkowitz discovered radio while in college in 1975. “I had an amazing teacher, who was a radio professional at the time, who taught me the magic and power of the spoken word,” he said. “It is very gratifying to be able to do the same for a new generation of broadcasters.”
