Alum Profile: Luke Ramseth '12

From Cal to Idaho to Utah

Luke Ramseth, class of 2012

Beautiful places draw Luke Ramseth. Just one year after graduating in 2012, Ramseth found himself in Palm Springs covering general assignment news for the Riverside Press Enterprise.  Now he’s doing the same in Utah for The Salt Lake Tribune. “I’ve bounced around a lot, but have no plans to leave journalism anytime soon,” Ramseth said. “It’s too much fun.”
In between, he spent a few years in Idaho.
On a whim in the summer of 2014, Ramseth applied to a small newspaper in eastern Idaho, the Idaho Falls Post Register. There, he covered the Idaho National Laboratory and other energy and natural resource news.
“I decided I needed a change of scenery,” Ramseth said. “Some people thought it was an odd move to make from Southern California, But I’m glad I took the risk. The beat was fascinating, and it was a fun newsroom with a great editor. I spent two and a half years there, a lot longer than I expected going in.”
